Ferndale Elementary School

The Ferndale Elementary School parking will be partially closed tomorrow, Thursday, October 26th. The modular building is being prepared for electricity! We are very excited to have this additional space for our Expanded Learning program.

The Grandparent Tea is tomorrow! Please remind the grandparents who are attending to meet us in our school gym at 11:30. The students are very excited.

Ferndale Elementary School has a Cafeteria Cook position available. The job description is attached. The wage is dependent on experience $16.95-$24.12. The hours for this position are between 7:30-3:30. This position has a 190 calendar days, work year and follows the FUSD Academic Calendar. Good Morning, Lunch on the lawn is scheduled for this Friday, October 13th. Students in 7th/8th grade will be at FHS for the homecoming rally and will NOT be participating in Lunch on the Lawn. Please see the flyers for details. This event is weather-dependent.

Hello 5th-8th grade girls basketball families - for girls basketball season, we are asking all parents and athletes to sign PAPER packet versions of the FES Athletic Handbook in addition to registering your child electronically. Since this is the first year we've done registration electronically through ArbiterSports, we are trying to ensure that every athlete and parent understands exactly what they are signing (*note: the content of the FES Athletic Handbook is very similar to the content from previous years). Back To School Parent Information Night Thursday, September 7th, 2023 TK-3rd Grades 6:00-6:20 4th - 6th Grades 6:30-6:50 Held in your child’s classroom This is a general information meeting. If you have specific questions about your child, please schedule a meeting with your child’s teacher.

The main parking lot at Ferndale Elementary school has been modified. We have a modular building in our parking lot and until further notice you can not pick up in the parking lot. We understand the inconvenience. We recommend parking on the Shaw avenue. We are working with our engineers to redesign our parking lot, but I do not have a date yet. Please plan on parking on the street to ensure student safety.

Good Morning Ferndale Elementary School families, we are excited to have your children join us for the 23-24 school year. Today is early release at 1:00 p.m. for the entire school. All pickup and drop off must happen through the front of the school on Shaw Ave. We understand and appreciate your patience and flexibility during school pick up times. Ferndale Unified staff began the 2023-2024 school year with back to school professional development. Our educators engaged in data analysis facilitated by the Humboldt County Office of Education School Support team. We identified barriers to our students accessing their education and what we as educators can put into place to reduce barriers. Thank you to all of our staff at Ferndale Unified who choose to make this a terrific school year.

On April 13, a 12-member Hiring Panel, comprised of teachers from Ferndale High School, Ferndale Elementary School, parents, and all five FUSD Board of Trustees members, met to discuss and interview applicants for the position of District Superintendent. The Hiring Panel officially asked the Board of Trustees to approve Mrs. Danielle Carmesin, the current Principal at Ferndale Elementary School, as the new Superintendent of Schools. In their Closed Session meeting on Wednesday, April 19, the Trustees voted unanimously to approve Mrs. Carmesin as the FUSD Superintendent. She will blend this new duty with her current role as Elementary Principal and remain at FES. The Ferndale High School Principal opening has been advertised on several educational platforms and will close on April 28. The same Hiring Panel will interview the qualified applicants on a date soon after May 1, 2023. On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I’d like to thank you for your continued patience and support.
