FES Students Know How to Clean Up

FES students really care about their school and can be found at times cleaning up the trash from the play ground. When they are caught in the action of being Respectful, they get a Lucky Horseshoe now called the Mustang Buck. At the end of the semester, they will get to go shopping with their bucks at the FES Spirit Store where they get to clean up again. Way to go girls!

Día de los Difuntos or Day of the Dead Celebration

Día de los Difuntos or Day of the Dead

Gathered about the small table, anxious students awaited to celebrate a very important cultural holiday. Their ELD teacher, Maira Rodriguez, had prepared Mexican hot chocolate and sweetbread for the celebration to be eaten as a reminder of death being a sweet continuation of the cycle of life. They were engaged a three-day celebration at the beginning of November that honors the deceased. The tradition originates from Mexico, but the holiday is now observed in Mexican-American communities in the U.S., Spain and some Central and South American countries. The official dates are Nov.1— Dia de los Angelitos, dedicated to deceased youth—and Nov. 2, Día de los Difuntos, for adults. She had definitely honored cultural relevance!  Thank you, Maira!
